Persistence, Presence, and Heart: Cindy’s Impact as a CASA Volunteer

CASA Cindy Carlile

“When your kiddo calls and begs you to come see him when you just saw him two days ago, you know you’re making a difference.” – Cindy, CASA Volunteer.

Cindy isn’t new to helping others. She’s spent much of her life finding ways to serve. From raising a family to pursuing her love of crafting, she’s always poured her energy into creating and caring. So when she discovered CASA years ago, it felt less like a new path and more like a calling she was meant to answer.

Her journey started decades ago when she first walked past a CASA office while working at the United Way.. “I’ve always had a passion to help children,” she remembers. That passion eventually led her to serve not once—but four times—in different states across the country.

Now back in Pennsylvania, Cindy has taken on her first case since being sworn in December 2024. She admits the beginning was a little nerve-wracking: “I was a little nervous at first as I met my kiddo at his mom’s home. But building a relationship with him and his family makes everything a lot easier.”

From catching an allergic reaction to a child’s medication to answering calls from a kiddo who simply wanted to see her again, Cindy knows the power of presence. “Being a CASA is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done with my life,” she says.

The work isn’t always easy. There are roadblocks, frustrations, and “brick walls” along the way. But Cindy says what keeps her going is the difference she sees in a child’s life—and the encouragement from the CASA staff and fellow volunteers.

Her advice for anyone thinking about becoming a CASA? Stay organized, lean on the team for support, and remember that even the smallest actions can mean the world to a child.

Cindy’s story is a reminder that it doesn’t take perfection to change a life—it takes presence, persistence, and heart.
